Whether it’s a passenger car or commercial vehicle, new or used: Before you can register your vehicle in a canton of Switzerland, it has to undergo a vehicle inspection.

However, even if your car has already been inspected abroad, it requires a new inspection in Switzerland. This MFK (Motor Vehicle Inspection) appointment can only be arranged after a successful vehicle import. On average, private importers wait between 4 and 6 weeks for this.

If you register your imported car for an inspection appointment yourself, it can take between 5 and 6 weeks, depending on the canton. If the check is carried out by the import butler, the process only takes 5 working days.

An MFK date cannot be announced before the vehicle is delivered to the collection point. The import-butler partly receives express appointments from the road traffic office, which have to be taken within one hour.

If the car is inspected by the import-butler, its eligibility for registration applies to the whole of Switzerland.

If the road traffic office finds fault with the vehicle, you can either have it repaired by our partner (Rowilag AG) or have the vehicle moved to the garage of your choice at your expense.

Repairs and services necessary for passing the MFK will be billed separately.
