After all the car import steps have been carried out, the Swiss registration and the Swiss licence plate will be issued at the end. Admission takes place in the respective canton of residence during opening hours. Proof of insurance is required for admission. This proof is sent electronically by the insurance company to the Road Traffic Office.
The Import-Butler takes over the registration for you no matter in which canton you live and saves you the preparation of the import registration dossier and the visit to the registration office.
In Switzerland there are basically three different types of registration for car imports.
If you register your import car in Switzerland, you will usually be randomly assigned a license plate number. However, you can also bid for a number via the auction platform of the Road Traffic Office. There are no upper limits to the costs of the auction. For this reason, the licence plate number SG 1 (Canton of St.Gallen) was also purchased at auction for CHF 135,000. Try your luck. You can find the platform on the homepage of the Road Traffic Office.
The Road Traffic Office is located in various places and several times in most Swiss cantons.
At the moment you cannot register a car via the Internet. The original documents must be submitted. (Stand 05.2018)
If desired, the Import-Butler will register the import car in your canton of residence. You will then receive your Swiss vehicle registration document and, if applicable, the registration plate.
