Use the right search filters
Two filters make all the difference when importing – both marketplaces have them: 1. "VAT reclaimable" – only when German VAT is itemised in the offer can it be refunded after the import. That is 19% of the purchase price. 2. "Dealer offers only" – when buying from a dealer, the vehicle documents (COC, certificate of origin) are usually complete and the offer includes reclaimable VAT. Search both marketplaces: not every vehicle is listed on both, and for sought-after models comparing prices pays off.
